The Bible
· Ancient Israel and Judea
Holy Bible, Scripture, Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, TanakhThe Bible is the collection of Hebrew and Greek scriptures that Jews and Christians hold sacred, written over a thousand years by prophets, priests, poets, historians and evangelists whose names are in most cases unknown or traditional. The lists assign it in parts: the law and history of Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Samuel, the prophets Amos, Isaiah and Jonah, and the Gospels of Luke and John. No book has been read by more people, translated into more languages or argued over more, and none has shaped the rest of the shelf so thoroughly; Dante, Milton, Bunyan, Dostoevsky and King are unreadable without it.
