Various, Multiple authors, AnthologyVarious authors is the label for the anthologies on the lists that gather many hands under one title: the Hymns of the Christian Church that the Harvard Classics collect from Ambrose to the Wesleys, the Romantic Poetry Reader that the newer lists use for Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley and Keats together, and The Stoics Reader in which Inwood and Gerson gather the fragments of Zeno, Cleanthes and Chrysippus from the later writers who quoted them. In each case the book exists because the material would otherwise be scattered, and the reader meets a tradition rather than a voice.
