Supreme Court of the United States, SCOTUS

The United States Supreme Court is the court the Constitution established and John Marshall made, in Marbury v. Madison of 1803, the final judge of what the Constitution means. The Opinions the lists assign are the cases through which Americans have argued about their founding text: Marbury, McCulloch, Dred Scott, which held that Black Americans could not be citizens, Plessy, which allowed segregation, Brown, which ended it, and the modern cases on speech, religion and privacy. They are read as political philosophy in the form of judgments, with dissents that are sometimes the better argument and were later the law.
