Ecomodernists, The Breakthrough InstituteJohn Asafu-Adjaye is an Australian economist who was the first named of the eighteen authors of An Ecomodernist Manifesto of 2015, a statement from the Breakthrough Institute arguing that humanity should embrace its power over nature rather than retreat from it: that intensive agriculture, cities and nuclear energy can decouple human flourishing from environmental impact and leave more of the planet wild. The manifesto’s other signatories include Stewart Brand and Ted Nordhaus. It is assigned on the newest lists beside the degrowth writers it argues against, as one side of the debate about what to do with the earth.
